Boost XP lets you fine tune various settings of Start Menu and Desktop. Many of these settings will work only with Classic Start Menu in Windows XP. These settings are particularly helpful where a computer is used by many people or is a public computer.

Remove Help from Start Menu : Removes the help menu item from the start menu.

Disabled Programs on Settings Menu : Removes the Control Panel and Printers folders from the Settings menu.

Remove RUN from the Start Menu : Removes the run command from the Start Menu. It also disables in Windows NT/2000 the RUN from task manager.

Remove Search from the Start Menu : Removes the search from Start Menu and disables ability of any user to search for files.

Remove Favorites from the Start Menu : Removes the favorites from the Start Menu. Thus you can keep your favorites hidden.

Remove USER Folders from the Start Menu : Hides all folders on the user-specific section of the Start Menu. Other items appear, but folders are hidden.

Remove Documents from the Start Menu : Removes the My Documents icon from the Start Menu and its submenus.

Disable Windows Updates: Prevents users from connecting to the Windows Update Web site.

Remove Common Groups from Start Menu: Disables the display of common groups when the user selects Programs from the Start menu.

Remove Network and Dialup Connection from the Start Menu: Prevents users from running Network and Dial-up Connections.

Add logoff to Start Menu: Add / Removes the Log Off user-name item from the Start menu and prevents users from restoring it.

Disable Shutdown Command: Prevents users from shutting down the Windows.

Disable Context Menu on Taskbar : Disables the right click menu on the taskbar. It is the most effective protection but also disables ability to close programs from the taskbar.

Disable Recent Documents History: Windows keep a record of recent documents you have opened. This disables the recent documents history.

Desktop Wallpaper Security : This options disables the ability of user to change wallpaper. Once a wallpaper is set the same wallpaper is applied to desktop irrespective of what is chosen from Display Properties.

Internet Explorer Security

Boost XP lets you fine tune various settings of Internet Explorer in context of Security.

Disable IE Toolbar: Disables the ability to modify or make any changes on Internet Explorer Toolbar.

Disable Changing Temporary File Settings: Disables the ability to modify or make any changes related to Temporary Internet files or Internet Explorer Cache.

Disable Help Menu: Disables the help command from IE help menu.

Disable Irrelevant Help Items: Disables the many of the Internet Explorer Help unneeded sub items. Like help for Netscape users, send feedback ...

Disable Closing Browser: Disables the ability to close any open browser window.

Disable Internet Options Menu Item : Disables the ability to modify Internet Options from the Internet Explorer.

Disable File New and Open..: Disables opening new windows or browsing for files from File -> New and File -> Open .

Disable Ability To Save: Disables the save or save as from the File Menu in Internet Explorer.

Disable Favorites: Disables the Favorites from the Internet Explorer Menu.

Disable Selection of IE Download Directory: Disable the saving of all downloads from Internet Explorer.

Disable Prevent to Save Password: Disables the password caching feature of Internet Explorer. When you visit restricted sites Internet Explorer will not prompt you to save the password.

Disable Adding any site to Restricted Zone: Disables the ability to add a site to restricted zone.

No Context Menu in Browser: Disables any right click menu in Internet Explorer.

Disable Auto Complete: Disables the auto complete feature of Internet Explorer. When you visit sites and fill forms the Internet Explorer remembers what you have filled. On next visit you do not have to type the same information again, IE pop ups the information below the form. It is a nice feature but when your PC is used by others it also reveals what you have typed.

Prevent Changing Security Levels of Internet Zone: Prevents changing Security Levels for the Internet Zone. Internet Explorer have different security levels with predefined restrictions for a web site. This setting prevents any changes to be made in these zones.

Hide from IE Options Dialog Box: Internet Explorer options are huge. But they also gives you power. They can be launched both from Control Panel and Internet Explorer. Launching from the Internet Explorer can be controlled but not from Control Panel. This option gives you which Tabs the Internet Explorer Option Window should be displayed. When all of the options are selected Internet Explorer Options window is not launched.

Block Exeution of Programs

The Boost XP Block Execution of Programs function offers an easy way to control the choice of programs which can be executed on your machine and those which should not be allowed to be executed. When you enter any program (".exe") it will not be allowed to run. Just specify the executable files that should not be allowed to be executed, and Boost-XP will control each program execution. If a file is executed which is specified in the list below, the program file won't be launched.

How to use this feature:

Click Add button and select a program you do not want the users to run. Say notepad.exe.

When Notepad.exe is entered in list try executing Notepad.exe. You will not be allowed to run Notepad.exe.

You can then selectively add, delete programs. For each programs you want to restrict you have to add this to the list box by pressing the Add Button.

Other System Restrictions Tool

Disable Saving Settings on Exit : Disables saving any settings when user logs off the system.

Disable Changing Password : Disable the ability of the user to modify or change the login password.

Disable Context Menu on Taskbar : Disables the ability to right click on the Taskbar.

Disable Explorer Context Menu : Disables the right click menu within Windows Explorer and Desktop. Should be used with utmost care.

Disable Registry Editor : Disable the registry editor tool. Most important protection. It is also dangerous option. It should be used with utmost care.

Disable Control Panel : Disables control panel.

Disable Lock Workstation : Disables the locking of workstation.
